The attack in Zaporizhzhia came as Russian drones were also detected over Kyiv later the same morning, prompting air defense activity in the capital. Russian drones were spotted over Kyiv on the morning of March 16.
Debris from downed drones fell in several districts of the city following the attack.
In the Shevchenkivskyi district, in central Kyiv, fragments landed without causing fires or casualties. According to a Suspilne correspondent, parts of a Russian drone also fell near the Independence Monument on Maidan Nezalezhnosti. The monument itself was not visibly damaged, and specialists are working at the site to collect the debris.

Overnight on March 14, Russia launched a large-scale combined aerial assault on Ukraine, deploying hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles against targets across the country, with the Kyiv region identified as the main direction of the strike.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian forces used a total of 498 aerial weapons between the evening of March 13 and the morning of March 14, including ballistic and cruise missiles as well as numerous attack drones aimed at critical infrastructure.
