Between January and May 2025, Ukrainian drones struck deep into Russia, causing over $10 billion in damage to its industrial sector, said Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, speaking to media on June 21.

Syrskyi stated, “What works for us? DeepStrike [drones]. It is probably one of our strongest advantages, with an efficiency that exceeds our expenditures in engagements by fifteen times.” He added that opposing negotiators even insisted Ukraine refrain from striking oil-refining facilities—an implicit recognition of DeepStrike’s strategic impact.

Between January and May 2025, Ukrainian Armed Forces’ unmanned systems carried out a series of deep-strike operations on Russian territory, inflicting over $10 billion in total damage to the Russian industrial complexm according to the data shared by Commander-in-Chief Syrskyi. Direct losses, exceeding $1.3 billion, hit critical sectors such as oil refining and fuel production, while indirect losses of at least $9.5 billion stemmed from destabilizing the oil sector, forced shutdowns of facilities, supply chain blockages, and disrupted product transportation.

DeepStrike drones have achieved an efficiency fifteen times greater than the cost incurred per mission, a performance so significant that adversaries demanded limits on Ukraine’s deep-strike operations, Syrskyi shared.

Addressing future operations, he explained, “Of course, we will continue our deep-strike operations on Russian territory along the DeepStrike axis. We will scale up the scope and depth. Considering that we do not fight against the population, we fight and destroy solely military facilities”.

Reflecting on broader tactics, Syrskyi underscored the need to blend innovation with proven methods: “On one hand, we are developing technologies, and on the other hand, established proven means are effective”. He stressed that this synergy enables Ukraine to maintain relentless pressure on critical enemy infrastructure while preserving the lives of its defenders.

Earlier, DeepStrike drones targeted more than 58 facilities across Russia’s western regions in May, focusing on ammunition depots, command posts and key defense factories. These operations reportedly disrupted supply chains for precision-guided munitions and strike drones, and degraded the enemy’s repair and logistics networks, underscoring the strategic value of Ukraine’s deep-strike arsenal.
