Trump: “We’ll Respond Differently” If Putin Is “Tapping Us Along” on Ukraine Peace

Speaking to reporters at the White House on May 28, US President Donald Trump said it will take about “a week and a half to two weeks” to determine whether Russian leader Vladimir Putin is genuinely committed to ending the war in Ukraine.
“I’ll let you know in about two weeks,” Trump said when asked in the Oval Office whether Putin truly wants peace. “We’re going to find out whether or not he’s tapping us along or not, and if he is, we’ll respond a little bit differently.”

Trump also expressed frustration with the ongoing violence, particularly as peace efforts remain inconclusive.
“It’s very disappointing,” he added, referencing those “being killed in the middle of what you would call a negotiation.”
Earlier, Trump claimed that if not for his actions during his presidency, “a lot of really bad things” would have already happened to Russia. Following this statement, the Russian Security Council dropped its World War III warning after Trump’s criticism.
Before that, on May 26, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed President Donald Trump’s criticism of Russia’s attacks on Ukraine, attributing it to “emotional overload.”
