Ukraine and Germany to Jointly Produce 200 Bohdana Artillery Systems Worth $815M

Ukraine’s defense industry, in partnership with Germany, will manufacture 200 additional “Bohdana” self-propelled artillery systems using German Mercedes-Benz Zetros chassis.
The project is valued at approximately $815 million, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on December 17.
The artillery systems will be manufactured in Ukraine, with the Zetros trucks provided as part of Germany’s ongoing military assistance. The Bohdana system, designed and produced in Ukraine, has proven effective in countering Russian aggression, particularly in precision strikes and mobile artillery operations.

According to Militarnyi, in addition to the artillery initiative, Ukraine has placed a separate order for 1,000 Zetros trucks adapted to the conditions of modern warfare, including drone-centric operations. Daimler Truck, the German manufacturer of the Zetros line, has previously delivered more than 200 vehicles to Ukraine, although the company has not disclosed details of the new contract.
The Mercedes-Benz Zetros is available in several configurations, including two-axle (4×4), three-axle (6×6), and four-axle (8×8) models, allowing flexibility for a range of battlefield and logistics applications.
The curb weight of the chassis varies from approximately 17,800 to 25,350 pounds (8.1 to 11.5 metric tons), with a gross vehicle weight capacity ranging from 35,300 to 79,400 pounds (16 to 36 metric tons), depending on configuration.
