Ukraine Backs Peace in Middle East as Strategic Step for Global Security

Ukraine has expressed its full support for the two-week ceasefire agreement and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, reached between the United States and the Iranian regime.
On April 8 Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi emphasized that the stabilization of this vital maritime route is a result of American resolve. He stated that this decision should serve as a precedent for ending Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The Ministry emphasized that "confidence-building measures" are essential to creating an environment for diplomacy. Ukrainian officials noted that the pause in the Middle East offers a window for diplomatic work that could protect global logistics chains and stabilize markets.
Kyiv is monitoring the upcoming rounds of negotiations scheduled for April 10 to see if the parties can reach a long-term agreement on key issues.
Ukraine reiterated its own proposals for a cessation of hostilities. The government confirmed that its offer for an Easter truce remains on the table. Additionally, Kyiv is ready for an energy ceasefire.
Under this proposal, if Russia stops its attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, Ukraine is prepared to respond in kind and halt strikes on Russian energy targets.

Kyiv remains committed to using international platforms to advocate for these truces. Officials expressed hope that the same international determination seen in the Gulf will be applied to pressuring Moscow.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that a ceasefire in Ukraine would save lives and infrastructure, mirroring the positive developments currently unfolding in the Middle East.
On April 6, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine was ready to halt strikes on Russian energy infrastructure if Russia reciprocated by ending its own attacks. The Ukrainian government sent this proposal for a mutual energy truce to Moscow through American intermediaries.
Zelenskyy explained that Kyiv was prepared to respond in kind to any cessation of strikes on the power grid, noting that his goal was to achieve stability and peace both in Europe and in the Gulf region to prevent further market destabilization.
