Ukraine Seeks $100 Billion in US Arms With European Funding Before Peace Talks

Ukraine has proposed purchasing $100 billion in American weapons, financed by European partners, in a bid to secure US guarantees for its security after a potential peace settlement with Russia, according to a document obtained by the Financial Times on August 19.
The proposals also include a $50 billion deal to produce drones with Ukrainian companies that have developed advanced unmanned systems since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
Kyiv shared the plans with the US and European allies as part of a list of talking points ahead of a White House meeting with US President Donald Trump on Monday, sources familiar with the matter told Financial Times.

The document does not specify which weapons Ukraine seeks, but Kyiv has previously expressed interest in acquiring at least 10 US-made Patriot air defense systems to protect cities and critical infrastructure, alongside additional missiles and military equipment.
Details on the drone deal remain unclear regarding how much would be procurement versus investment.
Ukraine’s proposal appears designed to appeal to Trump’s emphasis on American industry. Asked about further US military aid on Monday, Trump said, “We’re not giving anything. We’re selling weapons.”
The document also outlines Ukraine’s intended counter-arguments following Trump’s meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska, after which the US leader initially seemed to support a ceasefire but shifted to pursuing a comprehensive peace settlement, Financial Times claims.
Previously, it was reported that Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House. During the talks, Trump addressed the question of a ceasefire in Ukraine, noting that discussions should move toward a broader peace deal.
