A Ukrainian drone operator has successfully controlled a STING interceptor from a distance of 2,000 kilometers, marking a new benchmark in remote warfare capabilities, according to drone developer Wild Hornet on April 17.

In the reported case, the pilot was located abroad while directing the interceptor drone operating in northern Ukraine, demonstrating the growing reach of Ukraine’s remote strike and air defense technologies.

“We have already begun serial deployment of HORNET VISION Ctrl. It previously enabled Roman ‘Hulk’ from the BULAVA unit to destroy two Shahed drones at a distance of 500 km,” the developers said.

The STING is a high-speed interceptor drone developed by the Wild Hornets volunteer group. Designed specifically to engage and destroy incoming Shahed drones, it features a streamlined, projectile-like design, allowing it to exceed speeds of 340 km/h and operate at altitudes of up to 3 kilometers.

Its capabilities are significantly enhanced by the HORNET VISION Ctrl system, which provides high-definition video transmission and low-latency control over long distances. This technology effectively transforms compact interceptor drones into long-range air defense tools.

The record-setting mission was made possible by integrating this digital control ecosystem, enabling operators to guide drones from hundreds—or even thousands—of kilometers away while remaining far from the battlefield.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry unveiled an updated exhibition of domestically produced weapons, featuring a new long-range strike drone designed for deep attacks, as the country continues to accelerate its defense industry amid the war.

According to the system’s specifications, the “Sichen” drone has a range of up to 1,400 kilometers and can strike targets with an accuracy of within 20 meters.
