Ukraine Unveils Marichka Underwater Drone Designed to Hit Russian Ports 1,000 Km Out

Ukrainian defense developers have disclosed new technical details about the “Marichka” unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV), a domestically produced heavy submersible drone designed for long-range attacks on enemy maritime assets.
The information was revealed by representatives of the company Akvatekhnik during a recent episode of the “Do Zbroi” podcast on the Militarnyi platform.
Ukraine’s Marichka naval drone reportedly has up to 1,000 km range and a large warhead and has completed tests, but hasn’t been used in combat yet.

According to Militarnyi on February 2, the Marichka drone has a maximum operational range of up to 1,000 kilometers and can carry a payload of approximately one metric ton. Its top underwater speed is estimated at 10 kilometers per hour.
While relatively slow, the propulsion system is optimized for minimal acoustic signature, enhancing the drone’s stealth in contested environments.
The drone is equipped with an inertial navigation system, which does not rely on satellite signals and is therefore resistant to jamming and electronic warfare. This allows Marichka to navigate and strike autonomously, even in GPS-denied conditions.

Marichka is capable of halting at predefined coordinates and remaining in standby mode for up to seven days before resuming movement or initiating a strike.
According to Akvatekhnik, the system can conduct attacks on a wide range of targets including warships, port infrastructure, and potentially bridges.
The modular design allows the warhead configuration to be adjusted based on mission requirements. With the addition of specialized equipment, the drone can also be repurposed for reconnaissance operations.

The submersible is currently undergoing field trials and refinement of its powertrain and navigation components. It has not yet been deployed in combat operations, but its testing phase is reportedly nearing completion.
Earlier, Ukraine unveiled its large-scale underwater drone Toloka at the Brave1 Defense Tech Valley 2025 exhibition in Lviv. The TLK-150 and its larger variants—TLK-400 and TLK-1000—offer ranges of up to 2,000 kilometers and payloads up to 5,000 kg, marking a significant step in Ukraine’s development of long-range sub-surface strike capabilities.
