Ukrainian Drones Target Key Oil Refineries and Military Facilities Across Russia

In the early hours of August 2, Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out coordinated drone attacks on several industrial and logistical targets deep inside Russian territory.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the strikes were directed at verified facilities supporting Russia’s ongoing military operations against Ukraine.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have intercepted at least 112 drones across seven regions, including Moscow, Bryansk, Kaluga, Oryol, Belgorod, Kursk, and Ryazan. Despite the intercepts, local authorities confirmed incidents of impact and damage. These claims cannot be independently verified.
In Samara region, Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev confirmed that a facility in Novokuybyshevsk was hit by a drone strike, prompting an emergency response. Authorities introduced temporary restrictions on mobile internet access across the region, while flight operations at Kurumoch International Airport were partially suspended. Footage circulated online suggests the targeted site was the Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery.

In Penza region, a drone strike also targeted an industrial facility, according to Governor Oleg Melnichenko.
The site hit appears to be the Penza-based “Electropribor” plant, which manufactures telecommunications equipment and specialized communication systems for Russia’s defense industry.
Russian authorities said emergency services had localized all fires and resumed operations where possible.
Earlier, it was reported that on July 31 similar drone strikes hit industrial infrastructure in Penza (a military‑control radio plant) and Volgograd (railway station), causing fires and temporary service disruption.
