Ukrainian Drones Wipe Out Russia’s Rare “Barnaul-T” Air Defense System, Video

Ukrainian forces have struck a Russian “Barnaul-T” automated air defense control system in Zaporizhzhia.
According to volunteer Serhiy Sternenko, the operation was carried out by operators of the Sons of Khors drone unit, which is part of the 128th Mountain Assault Brigade. Video of the strike was published online.
The target was identified as the 9S932-1 reconnaissance and command vehicle, a key component of the Barnaul-T system. The platform provides target acquisition, integrates data from radar and detection systems, and distributes engagement tasks across air defense units.
Open-source intelligence project Oryx reports that since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukrainian forces have destroyed three Barnaul-T systems and captured four others. In addition, Ukrainian troops have seized a 9S932-2 command vehicle from the system.
The Barnaul-T is designed to coordinate short-range air defense operations at battalion and brigade levels. It features a modular architecture with planning, reconnaissance, and command vehicles on wheeled or tracked chassis, as well as automation complexes for man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS).
The system can interface with a wide range of surface-to-air missile platforms and radars, including foreign-made equipment. The cost of a single Barnaul-T unit is estimated at between $3 and $6 million.
Earlier, Ukrainian Special Operations Forces destroyed a Russian TRLK-10 “Skala-M” long-range radar in occupied Crimea. The Soviet-era system, with a detection range of up to 350 kilometers, was targeted in Abrykosivka on August 9–10, significantly reducing Russia’s ability to control airspace over the peninsula.
