Underground Ammunition Depot in Russian’s Tula Region Hit by Drone Strikes

An underground explosives depot at the Aleksin Chemical Plant in Russia’s Tula region was reportedly targeted by drones on the night of August 30.
According to Ukrinform, the facility stored significant quantities of pyroxyline gunpowder, a smokeless powder used in small arms ammunition, artillery systems, and certain rocket engines.
The depot, located in the town of Aleksin about 320 kilometers from Ukraine’s border, was part of a secured complex of the Aleksin plant, which specializes in nitrocellulose production.
Local residents reported hearing powerful explosions and witnessing a large fire in the industrial zone. Videos shared on Russian social media channels showed the blast and subsequent blaze.
Russian officials acknowledged the incident, claiming air defense systems intercepted drones but admitted debris fell on the plant’s territory. Emergency services, including fire and medical crews, were dispatched to the site.
The Aleksin Chemical Plant is under US, EU, and Ukrainian sanctions for its role in supplying materials to Russia’s defense industry.
Earlier, on November 9, 2024, the Aleksin Chemical Plant in Russia’s Tula region—part of the country’s defense industry—was struck by drones, according to the Center for Counteracting Disinformation.
