On July 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded positively to US President Donald Trump’s recent statement proposing a shortened timeline for Russia to reach a peace agreement with Ukraine.
On social media platform X, Zelenskyy expressed appreciation for Trump’s stance.
Clear stance and expressed determination by @POTUS – right on time, when a lot can change through strength for real peace. I thank President Trump for his focus on saving lives and stopping this horrible war.

“I thank President Trump for his focus on saving lives and stopping this horrible war. Ukraine remains committed to peace and will work tirelessly with the US to make both our countries safer, stronger, and more prosperous,” he stated.
In his evening address, Zelenskyy emphasized the crucial role of international pressure on Russia, particularly through sanctions.
“Sanctions are a key element of pressure on Russia,” he said.
The President reaffirmed his country’s commitment to fulfilling its promises and highlighted the challenges posed by Russia’s actions.
“Today, there is an extremely important statement from President Trump. And it’s true—it is Russia that is doing everything to derail peace efforts and prolong this war,” Zelenskyy noted.

He also drew attention to Russia’s ongoing attacks.
“Every night, strikes—constant Russian attempts to hurt Ukraine. Truly, peace is possible if we act strongly and decisively,” he added. “We have said many times—and all our partners know this — that sanctions are a key element. Russia pays attention to sanctions, to those kinds of losses. Peace through strength is possible.”
On July 14, US President Donald Trump announced that unless an agreement is reached within the next 50 days, Washington would impose new “secondary tariffs” on Russia at a rate of approximately 100%.
On July 28, during a press spray with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump was asked about his earlier remarks regarding Russia and the timeline for brokering a peace deal in Ukraine. In response, Trump announced he would shorten the deadline to “10 or 12” days, signaling increased pressure on Moscow to move toward negotiations.
