Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump met during the NATO summit in The Hague on June 25. Zelenskyy described the meeting as “substantive,” noting that the two leaders discussed key issues related to ending Russia’s war against Ukraine and protecting civilians.

“We covered all truly important topics,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram following the talks.

“I thank the President, I thank the United States. We discussed how to achieve a ceasefire and a genuine peace. We talked about how to protect our people. We appreciate the attention and willingness to support the path to peace. More details to come,” Zelenskyy wrote.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the NATO summit in The Hague, where Ukraine’s defense and prospects for a just peace remain top priorities on the agenda.

The two leaders previously met in April at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City during the funeral of Pope Francis — their first face-to-face interaction since a reported dispute during a February meeting at the White House.\
