Zelenskyy Confirms Talks for Air Defense Capable of Intercepting Russia's New Intercontinental Missile
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Kyiv is in talks with its allies about acquiring air defense systems capable of intercepting intercontinental ballistic missiles.
“I am grateful to all partners who have already responded to this latest episode of Russian madness. But beyond words, action is needed,” Zelenskyy said in his daily address on November 22. “And in particular, on my instructions, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine is already holding meetings with our partners on new air defense systems – the kind of systems that can protect lives from new risks.”
On November 21, Ukrainian Air Forces reported that Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile on the city of Dnipro, Ukraine, for the first time since the start of the full-scale invasion.
According to Zelenskyy, when a country begins using others "not just for terror but also to test their new missiles through terror, this is undoubtedly an international crime."
“And coming from Russia, this is a mockery of the position of states like China, the states of the Global South, some leaders who consistently call for restraint, but in response invariably get some new escalation from Moscow,“ Zelenskyy continued.
The Ukrainian President called on allies to act so that Putin could feel the full consequences of his actions.
“That is why the world must sound serious in response – to make Putin really afraid of expanding the war and feel the real consequences of his actions,“ Zelenskyy added.
On November 21, Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile in an attack on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, making Ukraine the first country in the world against which an ICBM was used in combat.
Earlier on November 22, sources within Ukraine’s Armed Forces told Ukrinform outlet that Ukraine is already in discussions with the US regarding the provision of weapons capable of intercepting intercontinental missiles.
