The incident was reported by the analytical group “CyberBoroshno,” which assessed available photo and video materials.

According to the analysis, the attack occurred around 02:00, when several drones targeted the facility.

The group noted that the substation supplies electricity to Alchevsk city and the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant and serves as a key distribution hub with a capacity of 500 MVA.

The facility lies approximately 70–80 km from the line of contact, according to Militarnyi, citing the DeepState monitoring project

The outlet noted that temporarily occupied territories are extensively used by Russian forces, with electricity supporting military units, repair and maintenance facilities for equipment, as well as command posts and barracks.

The substation strike is part of a broader pattern of repeated Ukrainian attacks on Russian military-linked infrastructure in Alchevsk. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), in coordination with the 1st Separate Center of Unmanned Systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, disrupted operations at the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant on April 4, 2026.

The Alchevsk plant is considered a key element of the occupied industrial base, supplying raw materials and components used by Uralvagonzavod, Russia’s main tank manufacturer. Its steel is used in the production of the T-90M “Proryv” main battle tank and the Msta-S self-propelled howitzer.

According to reports, Ukrainian forces used Fire Point FP-2 drones to identify and strike critical infrastructure at the site. The attack caused significant damage to blast furnaces, electrical substations essential for powering heavy industrial processes, as well as gas pipelines and distillation columns used in metallurgical and chemical operations.

Additionally, on March 30, the General Staff also confirmed the strike on the Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works in the temporarily occupied Luhansk region, noting that the facility was involved in the production of large-caliber ammunition for Russian forces. A large fire was reported at the site following the attack.
