All passengers and railway personnel were moved to safety before anyone was injured, Kalashnyk said. Ukraine’s state railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, subsequently confirmed that the train had been damaged in the attack.

Passengers initially remained in a shelter and were expected to continue to Zaporizhzhia aboard buses arranged with support from the regional military administration.
“Russia is deliberately continuing to strike civilian infrastructure, attempting to intimidate people and disrupt the transport system,” Kalashnyk said.
Despite the damage, railway services in the region will continue under a dispatcher-controlled schedule, with Ukrainian monitoring teams providing additional oversight.
“Train traffic in the region will operate according to a dispatcher-controlled schedule, with enhanced monitoring by our teams,” Ukrzaliznytsia said.

The operator advised passengers traveling to or from Zaporizhzhia to check personalized service notifications in the Ukrzaliznytsia mobile application.
On July 18, Russian forces carried out 851 strikes against 51 settlements across the Zaporizhzhia region, according to regional authorities. One person was killed and two others, including a child, were injured in attacks on the Zaporizhzhia district.
Earlier, on October 4, 2025, Russian forces carried out consecutive drone strikes on passenger trains at Shostka railway station in Ukraine’s Sumy region, injuring about 30 people, including three children. The second strike hit as passengers were being evacuated following the initial attack.
