Russian Corvette Boykiy May Be Beyond Repair After Ukrainian Drone Strike, Satellite Images Suggest

Russian corvette Boykiy of Project 20380 appears to have sustained severe damage following a Ukrainian deep-strike drone operation, according to newly released satellite imagery analyzed by researcher MT Anderson via X on June 10.
The high-resolution images, captured inside a dry dock in Kronstadt, reportedly show the complete destruction of the vessel's superstructure and significant deformation of its hull.

According to Anderson's assessment, the ship's “structural core is heavily compromised.” He noted that asymmetrical shadow patterns visible in the imagery indicate that the mainmast and primary radar deck “completely collapsed inward and downward after severe bucking from severe heat.”
The researcher further suggested that the strike directly affected the corvette's key combat systems.
“The strike directly targeted the vessel's neural network—likely gutting her air-search radar, targeting radar, and EW arrays,” Anderson wrote.

Additional analysis of the imagery points to extensive fire damage throughout the vessel. Anderson reported visible distortion around the aft funnel structure, which he said may indicate that extreme heat from internal compartments warped intake and exhaust systems.
“Heavily scorched areas along the aft superstructure and flight deck show that the blaze likely gutted internal spaces,” he added. The images also appear to show debris scattered across the floor of the dry dock near the ship's midsection.
Based on the available visual evidence, Anderson concluded that the damage may be beyond economical repair.

“With the composite superstructure collapsing into the main hull and electronics destroyed, Boykiy is likely a total write-off,” he stated.
The newly released satellite imagery follows earlier reports that the Russian Project 20380 missile corvette Boykiy was damaged in a Ukrainian drone strike carried out by Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces against the Kronstadt naval base near St. Petersburg on June 3.
According to Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, operators from the unit’s 1st Center struck the Project 20380 corvette Boykiy while it was undergoing routine maintenance at the Veleshchynskyi Dry Dock in Kronstadt.
Brovdi stated that the vessel is equipped with guided missile systems and said the attack took place at approximately 6:35 a.m. local time.

The Boykiy, which entered service with Russia’s Baltic Fleet in 2013, was built to conduct patrol missions as well as anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare operations. In recent years, the warship has reportedly operated in areas close to NATO waters and has also been observed escorting vessels associated with Russia’s so-called shadow fleet through the English Channel.
The strike on the corvette was part of a broader overnight Ukrainian operation directed against Russian military and industrial infrastructure.
According to Ukraine’s General Staff, additional targets included the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal, the Progress defense enterprise in Russia’s Tambov region, and several military facilities located in temporarily occupied Crimea and Russian-occupied areas of eastern Ukraine.
