Russian Jet-Powered Drones Strike Commuter Train in Kharkiv Region, Killing One and Injuring Eight

One person was killed and at least eight others were injured after Russian forces struck a commuter electric train in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region on the morning of September 18, according to regional authorities.

Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, reported that the attack targeted an electric train in the Novovodolazka community, killing a 40-year-old man.

The number of injured, initially reported at seven, later rose to eight, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES).

The SES said Russian forces used jet-powered drones to strike a railway station in the community, causing fires in two carriages of the suburban electric train.

Emergency crews were deployed to the scene and extinguished the blaze, while relevant services continued working to address the consequences of the attack.

The September 18 strike follows another Russian attack on a passenger train in the Kharkiv region earlier this month. On September 9, a Russian Shahed-type drone struck a train traveling from Kharkiv to Izium, injuring at least seven people.

Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia, reported the attack. According to the Izium City Military Administration, the strike occurred at around 10 a.m. at a railway station near the village of Iskra. The drone hit the rear section of the Kharkiv–Izium train, causing a fire.
