Ukraine has scaled domestic production of drone interceptors to tens of thousands of units per month, according to Anduril Industries founder Palmer Luckey, who highlighted the country’s growing role in developing low-cost aerial defense systems.

Luckey is the founder of Anduril Industries, a US defense technology company that develops autonomous military systems, counter-drone technologies, and AI-powered battlefield solutions for the US military and its allies.

According to Defence Blog on June 8, Luckey made the statement while sharing an infographic compiled by naval analyst H.I. Sutton of Covert Shores that outlined a range of Ukrainian-made interceptor drones currently known to the public.

“Ukraine in particular has done extraordinary things, tens of thousands of units per month even if you only count in-country production,” Luckey wrote on June 8.

According to Defence Blog, Luckey’s comments came during a discussion about interceptor drones—unmanned systems designed to physically collide with and destroy enemy drones. He noted that Anduril’s Anvil interceptor, first demonstrated in 2019, was among the earliest examples of the concept entering practical use.

The infographic shared by Luckey listed multiple Ukrainian interceptor drone projects, including the Wild Hornet Wing-S, OCAS KPL-88, OctoAnt-500, T716A Technologies Tytan, Teramis Bayonet, and several other systems. According to Defence Blog, the list covers only publicly disclosed platforms and does not represent Ukraine’s full interceptor drone inventory.

Interceptor drones have become increasingly important as Russia continues to launch large-scale attacks using Shahed-type drones against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. Unlike traditional surface-to-air missiles, which can cost significantly more than the targets they engage, interceptor drones are designed as a lower-cost method of countering unmanned aerial threats.

According to Defence Blog, Ukraine’s interceptor drone sector has expanded alongside the country’s broader unmanned systems industry. Ukrainian manufacturers have developed multiple designs tailored to different targets, engagement ranges, and operational requirements while relying on rapid production cycles and battlefield feedback.

The publication also referenced earlier remarks by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who said in a May interview that the war had driven Ukraine to develop “new tactics, new techniques, new equipment, new technology.”

According to Defence Blog, Ukraine produced an estimated four million unmanned systems of various types in 2025, citing figures presented by Deputy Defense Minister Mstyslav Banik during NATO Parliamentary Assembly discussions. Production is expected to increase further in 2026, reflecting Ukraine’s continued focus on expanding domestic drone manufacturing amid the ongoing war.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said the share of Russian Shahed drones intercepted by Ukrainian interceptor drones had doubled over the previous four months, as Kyiv expanded its network of low-cost aerial defenses to counter a 35% increase in monthly drone attacks.
