Speaking to journalists in Beijing at the start of his visit to China, Vučić said he did not support the idea of shortening a presidential term, referencing former President Boris Tadić’s decision to do so.
“Such wording is meaningless, because either you resign or you remain president until the end of your term,” he said, “So, it is possible that I will resign soon.”
In 2025, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić met with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, where he outlined the pressures Serbia has faced since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Vučić addressed Putin in Russian and expressed gratitude for what he described as a “warm welcome” during his visit to Moscow on May 9.
He stressed that cooperation with Russia remains essential for Serbia across multiple sectors, particularly in energy, including the import of Russian gas.

“I want to say that since the beginning of the ‘Ukrainian crisis,’ Serbia has been in a difficult situation, trying to withstand the pressure, but we have still managed to maintain a principled position toward the Russian Federation. We will continue to fight for the independence of Serbia, and we will also try to remain the only country in Europe that has not imposed sanctions against the Russian Federation,” Vučić said.
In addition, the United States has granted a one-month extension of a sanctions waiver for Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS), a Serbian oil company majority owned by Russian entities, Serbian Energy Minister Dubravka Djedović Handanović said, describing it as the fifth and final such extension.
