The United States has shown serious interest for the first time in a proposal to grant Kyiv a license to manufacture American missiles directly on Ukrainian territory.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared this update during a joint press conference in Kyiv with the President of Honduras, Nasry Asfura. When asked about the concrete outcomes of recent negotiations with the US leader, Zelenskyy emphasized the strengthening of Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, according to Interfax on June 19.

He noted that during the latest talks, he received clear support from the G7 nations regarding air defense enhancement. Among those who offered a positive signal was US President Donald Trump.

Specifically, Zelenskyy highlighted the topic of production licenses for Ukrainian manufacturing, noting that the American side has approached the idea constructively for the first time.

"Strengthening Ukraine's air defense. For this, I received a positive signal from the entire G7, including President Trump. Licenses for the production of our missiles are being perceived positively by the American side for the first time," Zelenskyy stated.

This developments follows a June 17 statement by US President Donald Trump, who announced Washington’s intention to "consider the issue" of providing Kyiv with a license to manufacture American missiles on Ukrainian soil.

According to Trump, the Ukrainian side had already approached the US with this specific request as the country continues to defend itself against Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Earlier, Leaders from the Group of Seven nations reached a consensus to escalate economic pressure on Russia. The agreement focuses on imposing new sanctions targeting Russian oil and gas exports to curtail the funding Moscow uses for its military operations.
