France and the United Kingdom have publicly expressed their willingness to take on a leading role in ensuring Ukraine’s post-war security. However, both nations require logistical and intelligence support from the United States to effectively implement such measures, according to The Financial Times on February 25.

The Financial Times reports that U.S. President Donald Trump did not provide specific commitments to French President Emmanuel Macron regarding U.S. support for a European security contingent that may be deployed in Ukraine to oversee a ceasefire.

A French official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told FT that there is no “definitive agreement” on the nature of U.S. involvement in supporting a Western security presence in Ukraine.

At the same time, the official noted that “there is no objection from President Trump to the Americans providing security guarantees.”

The discussion between Trump and Macron also reportedly focused on ensuring Russia complies with the terms of a ceasefire and avoiding a repetition of the 2015-2016 Minsk agreements , which faced challenges in enforcement.

Previously, it was reported that Russian leader Vladimir Putin stated in an interview with Russian media on February 24 that while Russia does not oppose Ukraine maintaining its sovereignty, it firmly insists that Ukrainian territory must not be used as a military platform against Moscow.
