“Germany is providing an additional €200 million ($216 million) in the coming days to enhance protection against Russian bombings. This funding will support the acquisition of reconnaissance drones and strengthen civil defense efforts, aiming to better protect civilians and safeguard vital infrastructure,” Klöckner stated at a plenary session in Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada .
At the same time, Germany is deepening its collaboration with Ukraine by deploying Ukrainian service members with frontline combat experience to train Germany’s Bundeswehr units. This initiative will focus on drone operations, counter-drone tactics, and battlefield coordination systems, aiming to enhance the operational readiness of Germany's military forces.
The agreement to bring Ukrainian military instructors to Germany was signed by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The first group of Ukrainian trainers is expected to arrive in Germany soon, where they will primarily work with infantry units. Details regarding the structure and location of the training remain confidential for security reasons.

As reported by Der Spiegel, discussions between the two countries have been ongoing since 2025, centered on how Germany can leverage Ukraine’s practical combat experience to strengthen its defense capabilities.
As part of its expanded winter emergency assistance package worth $143 million, Germany has also delivered two cogeneration units along with additional generators to Ukraine to support the country’s energy infrastructure. The equipment, provided by the German government, is already operational in Kyiv, helping to stabilize the city's power supply.
According to Deutsche Welle, the new equipment would supply electricity and heat to over 86,000 people, including residential buildings, hospitals, kindergartens, and schools, ensuring that vital services continue uninterrupted despite the ongoing challenges.
