The Paris Court of Appeal has rejected the extradition request for Ukrainian entrepreneur and philanthropist Kostiantyn Zhevago, an action previously insisted upon by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO).

This was reported by Hromadske on October 29, citing Zhevago’s press service.

Representatives for Zhevago indicated that the French court found the arguments presented by the Ukrainian side unconvincing, specifically concerning whether Zhevago could be guaranteed the right to a fair and unbiased judicial review in Ukraine.

The extradition request for Zhevago was originally filed by the Office of the Prosecutor General and NABU in connection with a criminal investigation where Zhevago is suspected of offering a bribe to the Chief Justice and other judges of the Supreme Court.

The businessman’s legal counsel had previously alleged multiple procedural irregularities on the part of NABU and SAPO in their handling of this case. The defense team specifically claimed that the investigation proceeded without the involvement of the accused party.

Zhevago maintains his conviction that the criminal proceedings initiated against him are entirely devoid of any basis in justice. He has publicly urged NABU and SAPO to “finally heed the position of international courts.”

Earlier, Ukraine’s National Agency on Corruption Prevention received a significant award at the Open Government Partnership’s Global Summit.

This recognition was granted for the Agency's achievement in establishing a comprehensive, nationwide framework to execute the national Anti-Corruption Strategy, notably including the creation of the Information System for Monitoring the Implementation of the State Anti-Corruption Policy.
