Poland Launches Coordinated Air Operations After Russia’s Missile Strikes on Ukraine

In direct response to the Russia’s recent missile strikes targeting facilities within Ukraine, a coordinated operation involving Polish and allied air forces has been immediately activated within Polish airspace.
The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces announced the move on the social network X on October 30.
“Due to the attack by the Russian Federation on targets located on the territory of Ukraine, Polish and allied air forces have commenced operations in our airspace,” the statement read.

In response to the escalation, the Operational Commander of the Polish Armed Forces activated all available forces and resources. This comprehensive activation included scrambling fighter jets and an early warning radar aircraft. Additionally, ground-based air defense systems and radar reconnaissance units were placed on the highest level of combat readiness.
The Operational Command stated that these actions are preventive in nature and are specifically designed to guarantee the safety and protection of Polish airspace, especially in the regions that border the areas under threat.

Just one day earlier, on October 29, a pair of on-duty MiG-29 fighters from the Polish Air Force successfully intercepted a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft. The Russian plane was carrying out a reconnaissance mission in international airspace while operating without a filed flight plan and with its transponder deactivated, making it invisible to civilian traffic control.
Previously, Russian forces carried out an aerial attack, launching multiple waves of missiles, Shahed attack drones, and Kinzhal hypersonic weapons against various Ukrainian cities.
This coordinated strike hit crucial energy infrastructure and apartment blocks, causing power interruptions across the country. The attack resulted in one civilian death and injuries to many others, including children.
