Russia Launches Systematic Strikes on Ukraine’s Railways to Cripple Logistics, Rail Chief Says

Russia is intensifying strikes on Ukraine’s railway infrastructure in what officials describe as a deliberate campaign to cripple the country’s transport lifelines and frighten the civilian population.
Oleksandr Kamyshin, chief executive of Ukrainian Railways, told Reuters on September 23 that Moscow is conducting “systematic” attacks aimed at disrupting operations across the network.
“This is not accidental,” Kamyshin said. “They are systematically targeting the railways to disrupt supply and to scare people.” He noted that the assaults are designed to hinder military logistics as well as the transport of goods and humanitarian supplies.

Ukraine’s rail system, spanning more than 13,000 miles, has played a critical role since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, serving as the backbone for evacuations, troop movements, and cargo shipments. Despite repeated strikes, Kamyshin stressed that trains continue to operate daily. “We keep running, even under fire,” he said.
The executive added that repair crews work around the clock to restore damaged lines, often under threat of renewed shelling. Ukrainian Railways has reported dozens of attacks on its facilities this year, including on traction substations and signaling equipment.
The latest wave of strikes comes as Russia escalates its campaign against Ukraine’s energy and transport sectors, compounding pressure on an already strained economy.
Earlier, it was reported that Russia is conducting systematic drone strikes on Ukraine’s railway infrastructure—targeting power substations, hubs, and terminals—to delay trains and disrupt logistics.
