Ten Blasts Reported as Drones Hit Russia’s Major Rosneft Refinery in Samara Region

Strike drones targeted the Syzran oil refinery in Russia’s Samara region, sparking multiple fires and sending thick plumes of black smoke over the facility, Ukrainian defense outlet Militarnyi reported on August 15.
The attack began in the early morning, with residents describing a series of at least ten powerful blasts.

“The first explosions were around 4 a.m.,” one witness said. Video footage circulating on social media shows several separate fire zones burning across the sprawling plant.
The Syzran refinery, owned by state oil giant Rosneft, processes up to 8.9 million tons of crude annually and produces gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and bitumen.

It is located roughly 700 kilometers (435 miles) from the Ukrainian border, supplying fuel to the Samara, Saratov, and Penza regions, as well as parts of central Russia.
Earlier, a major fire broke out at the Lukoil oil refinery in Russia’s Volgograd after a drone strike overnight.
