Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, along with European leaders who arrived in Kyiv, held phone conversations on May 10 with US President Donald Trump before and after the “coalition of the willing” meeting, where they pushed for a ceasefire.

This was reported by the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, on X and a UNITED24 Media correspondent.

According to the FM, Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer had a “fruitful call” with Trump focused on peace efforts.

A UNITED24 Media correspondent stated that Trump has agreed to support a 30-day ceasefire, with a call for unconditional peace starting Monday. If Russia fails to comply, significant sanctions will be imposed.

Sybiha emphasized that Ukraine and its allies are ready for a complete, unconditional ceasefire on land, in the air, and at sea, lasting at least 30 days, starting Monday, May 12.

“If Russia agrees and effective monitoring is ensured, a durable ceasefire and confidence-building measures can pave the way to peace negotiations,” the Minister wrote.

Despite Putin’s prior rejection of the ceasefire, Macron clarified that this occurred before the meeting and phone conversations with Trump, which further shaped the negotiations.

Earlier during the day, it was reported that Macron, Merz, Starmer, and Tusk arrived in Kyiv on May 10 for a high-level meeting of the so-called “coalition of the willing.”

The leaders joined Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska in a ceremony on Kyiv’s Independence Square to honor the memory of those killed in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
