Ukraine is prepared to take reciprocal steps in response to Russia’s announced Easter ceasefire, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on April 10.

Zelenskyy stressed that Kyiv has repeatedly proposed halting hostilities during the Easter period and will now act accordingly.

“People need an Easter free from threats and real movement toward peace, and Russia has a chance not to return to strikes after Easter as well,” the President said.

Earlier, the Kremlin announced that the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, had ordered a halt to combat operations along all front lines from 4:00 pm on April 11 through the end of April 12, citing the Orthodox Easter holiday.

Relevant instructions were reportedly issued to the defense minister and the chief of the general staff.

Zelenskyy had previously stated at the end of March that Ukraine was ready for an Easter ceasefire with Russia.

He argued that even a pause lasting two or three days would not allow Russian forces to significantly strengthen their positions or affect the overall situation on the battlefield.

At the time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed he had not seen a clear ceasefire proposal from Ukraine.

Nevertheless, a few days ago, Zelenskyy once again announced that Ukraine was ready to stop strikes on Russian energy infrastructure if Russia reciprocated with a halt to its attacks.
