Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the “coalition of the willing”  will meet on September 4 to discuss proposed security guarantees for Ukraine, with Kyiv expecting Portugal to take part.

“On Thursday, the Coalition of the Willing will meet to discuss the prepared points on security guarantees. We expect Portugal to participate. One of the key components of these guarantees is Ukraine’s membership in the European Union. We have agreed that, on this path, there must be no division between Ukraine and Moldova,” Zelenskyy said.

The President also highlighted his conversation with Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, emphasizing Portugal’s support since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

“Portugal has been helping us from the very beginning of this war, and we in Ukraine truly feel it. I thanked them for all the support, including defense assistance and funding for the ‘Schools of Superheroes,’ which allow our children to continue learning during treatment,” Zelenskyy added.

He also noted opportunities for economic cooperation: “We discussed Portuguese business participation in Ukraine’s reconstruction and joint drone production. We agreed that our teams will carefully explore all available opportunities for such collaboration.”

Zelenskyy concluded by inviting Prime Minister Montenegro to visit Ukraine, underlining the ongoing commitment to strengthen bilateral ties and support Ukraine’s recovery.

Earlier, President Zelenskyy said Russia continues to signal its intent to prolong the war against Ukraine rather than engage in peace talks proposed by the United States.
