Zelenskyy Offers Poland Air-Defense Help After Russian Drone Strike on NATO Territory

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Kyiv is prepared to assist Poland in building a warning and protection system against Russian attacks, stressing the need for a pan-European approach to air defense, Zelenskyy wrote on September 10.
“More information is coming in about the intrusion of Russian attack drones into Polish territory. As of now, it’s known about 8 drones. Increasing evidence indicates that this movement, this direction of strike, was no accident,” Zelenskyy stated.

He noted that while isolated Russian drones had previously crossed into neighboring countries, the latest incident marked a larger and more deliberate escalation.
Ukraine, he said, stands ready to provide Poland with intelligence on the strike and assist in creating a robust air-defense and early-warning system.
“It is clear that Russian aggression poses a danger to every independent nation in our region, and therefore only joint and coordinated action can guarantee reliable security.”
Zelenskyy emphasized that Europe must adopt a collective approach to air defense, drawing on Ukraine’s long-standing proposals for a joint system that would integrate both combat aviation and ground-based defenses.

“The precedent of using combat aircraft from several European countries simultaneously to shoot down Russian weapons and protect human lives is highly significant,” he said.
“Together, Europeans are always stronger. Russia must feel that the response to this escalatory step, and even more so to an attempt to humiliate one of Europe’s key countries, will be clear and strong from all partners.”
Earlier, Poland’s military said it had wrapped up air operations after eight Russian drones entered the country’s airspace overnight.
