Russia Targets All Three of Kyiv’s Heat and Power Plants in Massive Missile Attack

Russian forces targeted all three of Kyiv’s combined heat and power plants in a large-scale missile attack on October 14, also striking critical energy infrastructure in Kharkiv and the surrounding region, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi.
The Ukrainian prime minister said Russian ballistic missiles had specifically targeted energy facilities in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and the Kharkiv region, while additional strikes hit critical infrastructure in the Kyiv region responsible for supplying electricity to the capital and central parts of Ukraine.

“All three of the city's combined heat and power plants were attacked in the capital. The enemy also struck critical facilities in the Kyiv region that provide electricity to the capital and central regions,” Koretskyi stated.
Following the overnight strikes, emergency responders and energy workers were deployed to the affected sites, where firefighting operations and debris removal remained underway.
According to Koretskyi, repair crews had already begun initial restoration efforts at the damaged energy facilities as authorities worked to address the consequences of the attacks.

“Energy workers and rescuers have been working at the sites of the overnight attack since early morning. Firefighting and debris removal operations are ongoing. Specialists have already begun urgent restoration work at the targeted facilities,” the prime minister said.
During the overnight attack, Russian forces launched 39 ballistic missiles and more than 120 drones, leaving at least 600,000 people without electricity. Ukrainian monitoring channels also reported an unprecedented barrage of approximately 25 Zircon missiles targeting Kyiv and the surrounding region.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on October 14 that Russian strikes had damaged energy facilities and critical infrastructure in Kyiv, the Kyiv region, and Kharkiv, resulting in extensive power outages.

Zelenskyy described the assault as a deliberate attack on energy infrastructure that was supposed to be protected under the energy ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump. He also characterized the scale of the strikes as an unusually direct challenge to Washington.
The latest attacks followed a two-day period during which Ukraine had refrained from striking Russian oil refineries and other energy facilities in response to Trump's announcement of the proposed ceasefire.
Despite Ukraine's decision to suspend such operations, Russian forces continued targeting Ukrainian energy infrastructure and other critical facilities, with attacks affecting 19 regions across the country during those two days, according to Zelenskyy.
