Ukraine Neutralized Nearly 90% of Russian Air Attacks in June, Analysis Shows

Russia launched 5,929 aerial attack weapons against Ukraine during June, while Ukrainian air defenses destroyed or electronically suppressed 5,277 of them, resulting in an overall neutralization rate of nearly 90%.

According to an analysis published by Defence Blog on July 1 based on daily data from Ukraine’s Air Force, the figures cover the full range of Russian aerial weapons, including one-way attack drones, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and anti-ship missiles. The reported total means 652 weapons were neither intercepted nor electronically disrupted during the month.
The publication found that unmanned aerial vehicles accounted for the overwhelming majority of intercepted targets. Ukrainian forces reported neutralizing 5,173 drones in June, alongside 59 cruise missiles, 39 ballistic missiles, and six anti-ship missiles.
According to Defence Blog, Russia’s campaign continued to rely primarily on large-scale drone attacks, with missiles used alongside UAVs during some of the month’s largest strikes.
The analysis notes that domestically produced Geran drones, derived from the Iranian-designed Shahed-136, remain significantly cheaper than the interceptor missiles often used to destroy them, creating an ongoing cost imbalance for Ukraine’s air defense network.

The highest-volume attack of the month took place on June 2, when Russia launched 729 aerial weapons. Ukraine reported destroying or suppressing 642 of them, including 602 drones, 29 cruise missiles, and 11 ballistic missiles.
Another major attack followed on June 15, when 681 aerial weapons were launched, with Ukrainian forces reporting 632 neutralized, including 582 drones, 30 cruise missiles, 15 ballistic missiles, and five anti-ship missiles.
Defence Blog also noted that six days in June saw more than 200 aerial weapons launched against Ukraine, while the lowest daily total was recorded on June 22, when Russia launched 89 weapons.

The publication highlights that Ukraine’s reported interception rate combines both kinetic interceptions and weapons neutralized through electronic warfare.
According to the analysis, Ukrainian reporting includes drones and missiles that were forced off course or crashed after being disrupted by electronic countermeasures, in addition to those physically destroyed by air defense systems.
Based on the June data, Russia launched an average of about 198 aerial attack weapons per day, making it the highest sustained monthly attack tempo recorded so far in 2026, according to Defence Blog.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense reported that Ukrainian air defenses neutralized more than 90% of Russian aerial attack weapons during mass strikes in May, including nearly 92% of attack drones. Officials also stressed the continued need for additional Patriot PAC-3 interceptor missiles to defend against ballistic threats.
