Danish police are investigating potential links between Russian ships and the drones that flew over Copenhagen Airport on September 22. Authorities suspect a “capable actor” orchestrated the operation, with drones observed from multiple directions, TV2 reported on September 24.

The Danish Armed Forces, National Operations Centre, and partners from Sweden and Norway are involved in the investigation. While no direct links to the ships have been confirmed, several vessels are under scrutiny.

Among them is the Russian cargo ship Astrol 1, which passed through the Øresund Strait, and the Benin-flagged tanker Pushpa, sanctioned for transporting Russian oil, TV2 writes.

Pushpa was 80 kilometers from the airport when the drones appeared, monitored by a German naval vessel for four hours.

Another vessel under investigation is Oslo Carrier 3, which was near the airport when the drones flew overhead.

Though there’s no direct Russian connection, some of the crew reportedly speaks Russian, and the ship is owned by Norway-based Bulkship Management AS, which has a presence in Kaliningrad, according to TV2.

Previously, During a UN Security Council meeting, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen had warned that Russia’s violations of NATO airspace are an attempt to undermine Europe’s security architecture.
