Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide outlined his country’s plans to expand cooperation with Ukrainian arms manufacturers during a visit to Kyiv.

He made the comments at a press briefing held at Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Pravda reported on January 12.

Eide said Norway is intensifying efforts to provide Ukraine with additional missiles while at the same time working to build partnerships with Ukrainian defense industry companies.

He explained that the aim of this cooperation is to integrate interceptors or effectors produced in Ukraine into the NASAMS air defense system.

“So that we can have cheaper weapons in larger quantities, because the problem is that the typical missiles used today are expensive and available in limited numbers,” Eide said.

On the same day, Norway unveiled a fresh $400 million aid package for Ukraine, with the funds divided equally between immediate winter assistance and support for the state budget.

“I want to confirm that today we are announcing a new support package under which $400 million will be transferred immediately. Of this amount, $200 million will go toward urgent winter needs: the purchase of gas and repairs to the energy sector, so that heating and electricity continue to function,” Norway’s Foreign Minister stated.

Earlier, Norway allocated a further $149.2 million to support access to electricity and heating for communities across Ukraine.

According to a statement released by the Norwegian government, the funding is being provided in coordination with the European Union and is intended to help cover Ukraine’s energy needs as the country enters its fourth winter of full-scale war.
