Poland has mobilized allied air forces in response to Russian airstrikes targeting western Ukraine. The Polish military confirmed the deployment of fighter jets and early-warning radar aircraft to protect the airspace.

According to Polish Armed Forces Operational Command on November 19, the actions were triggered by Russian bombings aimed at facilities on Ukrainian territory.

“Due to Russia's strikes on objects within Ukraine, Polish and allied aviation are active in our airspace. Fighter jets and an early-warning radar aircraft have been deployed,” the Polish military stated.

Poland’s ground-based air defense systems, radio detection systems, and long-range reconnaissance systems have been placed on full alert.

The Polish Armed Forces Operational Command emphasized that these actions are “preventive” and designed to ensure the security of airspace, particularly in areas near regions at risk.

In addition, Romania's airspace was breached during a combined Russian aerial assault on Ukraine in the night of November 18–19. A Russian drone, which entered Romanian airspace, caused a security response, with Romanian and NATO aircraft being deployed to monitor the situation.

According to Romania's Ministry of National Defense on November 19, two German Eurofighter Typhoon jets, stationed at the “Mihail Kogălniceanu” airbase, took off at 00:25 for airspace surveillance after the Russian attacks near Romania’s border.

The jets responded after a drone, detected at 00:20, flew approximately 8 km into Romanian territory, heading towards Kiliia and disappearing from radar.

The drone was briefly visible on radar for about 12 minutes, the monistry reported. At 01:50, the Eurofighter jets returned to base, and Romanian F-16 fighter jets, also deployed as part of the response, returned to their base at Kimpia-Turzii around 02:30. Field teams are on standby to begin search efforts for the drone.

Earlier, overnight, a Russian missile assault struck western Ukraine, causing part of a high-rise in Ternopil to collapse, resulting in at least nine fatalities and leaving several others—including children—injured.

Simultaneous attacks also hit Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Kharkiv, putting immense strain on emergency response teams throughout the region.
