Russian forces launched a long-range airstrike on the city of Kharkiv using two guided aerial bombs, hitting a residential building and a civilian enterprise using a new type of KAB airbomb, according to the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office on July 24.

At least 33 people were injured, including four children, local authorities reported. Among them were a 10-year-old girl, a 28-day-old infant, and a pregnant woman, all of whom suffered acute stress reactions. Two 17-year-olds, a boy and a girl, sustained blast injuries. All victims are receiving medical care.

One bomb hit a civilian industrial site, sparking a fire, while the second detonated near a multi-story apartment building, igniting several parked vehicles.

The strike occurred around 11:00 a.m. local time on July 24, when Russian Su-34 bombers dropped two UMPB-5 glide bombs from approximately 100 kilometers away, near the village of Stroitel in Russia’s Belgorod region.

Prosecutors emphasized that the strike used the newer UMPB-5 glide bomb, a weapon with significantly greater destructive power than its predecessor.

“In the UMPB-5, the warhead weighs 250 kilograms—comparable to a high-explosive bomb,” a prosecutor said. “Its casing is made of thicker metal than the older UMPB D-30 model, resulting in more severe injuries to civilians.”

Earlier, reports emerged that Ukrainian engineers have developed a domestically produced glide bomb system that converts standard aerial bombs into long-range guided munitions, similar to Russia’s universal planning and correction module kit (UMPK).
