Two commercial vessels, flying the flags of Palau and Barbados, were damaged in a Russian drone attack on the Odesa region.

The strike, which took place overnight, left two individuals injured, both of whom have received medical assistance, as reported by Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration, Oleksii Kubela, via Telegram on March 20.

According to Kubela, the vessels were docked at the time of the attack, loaded with grain. Despite the damage, both ships remain afloat.

“Two people were injured, and medical help was provided. At the time of the strike, the vessels were near the docks and were carrying grain,” he said.

In addition to the damage to the ships, administrative buildings in the area were also impacted, and a fire broke out. Local emergency services were able to quickly contain the flames. Recovery operations are ongoing as authorities work to mitigate the effects of the attack.

“This is yet another war crime by Russia against global food security!” emphasized the Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration.

The recent strike on Odesa's port follows a familiar pattern, with Russia launching another attack on the southern Ukrainian Black Sea city, targeting two of its ports. The attack resulted in one fatality and at least five injuries.

The strike caused substantial damage to port facilities, including administrative buildings and containers filled with oil. Several vehicles were also damaged, including a Renault truck with a shattered windshield, which was parked at the facility at the time of the attack.

A logistics truck was heavily damaged and left amid debris at the port, illustrating the extent of the destruction caused by the attack. Emergency services have been working at the scene, ensuring safety measures are in place and continuing efforts to minimize the damage.

The recent drone attack on Odesa’s port is part of Russia’s ongoing efforts to disrupt Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, particularly its shipping routes, which are crucial to the global food supply. Russia has stepped up its drone and missile attacks on Odesa, a key Black Sea port vital to Ukraine's grain exports and economy.

The strikes in December 2025 predominantly targeted Odesa, causing significant damage to port infrastructure, storage facilities, and power grids, while resulting in civilian casualties. Analysts suggest that these attacks are part of a broader Russian strategy aimed at crippling Ukraine’s economy amid ongoing warfare and heightened diplomatic efforts to resolve the war.
