The Air Force reported that Ukrainian air defense units intercepted a wide range of Russian weapons used in attacks across the country throughout the month. According to the military, the total included two Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles, 50 Kh-101 cruise missiles, 10 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, 11 Kalibr cruise missiles, 14 Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missiles, and 24 Iskander-K cruise missiles.

The majority of the intercepted targets were unmanned aerial vehicles. According to the Air Force, Ukrainian defenders shot down 5,053 Shahed attack drones, 1,316 reconnaissance drones, and 50,894 UAVs of other types during May.

Alongside air defense operations, Ukraine’s tactical aviation conducted 1,089 combat sorties over the course of the month. The Air Force said more than 700 missions were dedicated to fighter air patrols and airspace protection, while approximately 230 sorties focused on strikes against Russian positions and support for Ukrainian ground forces.

The latest statistics were released one day after Russia carried out another large-scale overnight missile and drone attack on multiple Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv and Dnipro, underscoring the continued pressure on Ukraine’s air defense network.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, air defense units continue to operate alongside combat aviation to counter aerial threats and support broader defense operations.
