What Ukraine’s Flamingo Missiles Did to Russia’s Only Soyuz-2 Serial Production Plant

Ukraine’s Armed Forces significantly damaged the Progress Rocket Space Center in Samara, Russia—the country’s only facility that serially assembles Soyuz-2 launch vehicles—according to satellite imagery published by the Exilenova+ OSINT community on August 18.

Ukrainian forces used domestically produced FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles to strike the strategic facility.
Two missiles hit Building 106A, where onboard electrical equipment, control systems, cable networks, and instrument compartments for the rockets are installed.
According to Exilenova+, one of the Flamingo missile impacts tore a hole approximately 35 meters wide and 85 meters long through the roof of one of the buildings.
🦩 FP-5 "Flamingo" is a Ukrainian ground-launched unmanned aerial system capable of delivering up to 1,150 kg of payload over a range of up to 3,000 km - the largest of its class.

Damage to the workshop could have a major impact on production because it is where control systems are installed, and key onboard components are tested before final assembly.
Building 106B, located next to the damaged structure, is used for final assembly of launch vehicles.
According to OSINT Varta, Progress is one of the key enterprises in Russia’s rocket and space industry.
The company develops and manufactures launch vehicles, including the Soyuz-2 family, as well as spacecraft.

Soyuz-2.1b rockets are used to launch Rassvet communications satellites developed by the Russian company Bureau 1440.
On March 23, a Soyuz-2.1b launched 16 Rassvet satellites into orbit. In July, Bureau 1440 launched a second group of communications satellites.
Earlier, reports emerged that Ukraine has sharply increased its use of domestically produced Flamingo cruise missiles against targets inside Russia this summer, with the pace of attacks nearly doubling over the past six months.
