For the country that once fought to leave  Moscow’s orbit, Orbán’s closeness to Russia as it wages its war against Ukraine is especially stark. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, Hungary has repeatedly obstructed aid to Ukraine, applied energy pressure, resisted sanctions on Russia, and opposed Ukraine’s path to the EU and NATO, alongside other political and diplomatic actions targeting Kyiv.
